Objective
By the end of this lesson, the kindergarten student will be able to express gratitude through visual arts and develop an appreciation for the concept of gratitude.
Materials and Prep
- Blank paper or sketchbook
- Coloring materials (crayons, markers, colored pencils)
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Magazines or old newspapers
Before starting the lesson, make sure the student understands the concept of gratitude and has a basic understanding of colors and shapes.
Activities

Guide the student to cut out pictures or words from magazines or old newspapers that represent things they are grateful for. Help them glue these cutouts onto a piece of paper or sketchbook to create a gratitude collage. Encourage them to use colors and shapes that make them feel happy and grateful.
Ask the student to draw a tree trunk and branches on a piece of paper. Then, have them draw leaves on the branches and write or draw things they are grateful for on each leaf. Encourage them to use different colors and shapes for each leaf.
Guide the student to fold a piece of paper in half to make a card. Help them decorate the front of the card with drawings or cutouts that represent gratitude. Inside the card, they can write or draw a message expressing their gratitude to someone special.
