Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and analyze patterns in reading passages.

Materials and Prep

  • Reading passages or books of your choice
  • Notebook or paper for taking notes
  • Pencil or pen

Activities

  1. Warm-up: Start by reading a short passage together. Ask the student to identify any patterns they notice in the text, such as repeated words, phrases, or sentence structures.
  2. Pattern hunt: Provide the student with a selection of reading passages or books. Instruct them to read through the texts and identify any patterns they find. Encourage them to write down their observations in their notebook or on a separate piece of paper.
  3. Pattern analysis: Once the student has identified several patterns, ask them to analyze the purpose and effect of these patterns. Discuss how patterns can enhance the reader's understanding, create rhythm, or convey specific emotions.
  4. Pattern creation: Challenge the student to create their own pattern in writing. They can write a short story, poem, or even a paragraph using a specific pattern they have identified or come up with on their own.
  5. Reflection: Have a discussion with the student about their experience with identifying and analyzing patterns in reading. Ask them to reflect on how this skill can improve their comprehension and appreciation of literature.
