By the end of this lesson, the fifth-grade homeschool student will be able to understand the basics of infant care and develop an awareness of the responsibilities involved in taking care of an infant sibling.

Materials and Prep

  • Doll or stuffed animal representing an infant
  • Blankets or swaddling cloth
  • Diapers
  • Baby wipes
  • Baby bottles or sippy cups
  • Pretend baby food

  2. Research: Ask the student to find online resources or books about infant care. Have them gather information on topics such as bathing, diapering, feeding, and safety precautions.
  3. Presentation: Have the student create a short presentation or poster summarizing what they have learned about infant care. They can include tips, important information, and any interesting facts they discovered.
  4. Discussion: Engage in a conversation with the student about the responsibilities and challenges of taking care of an infant sibling. Encourage them to share their thoughts, concerns, and ideas on how they can help their parents or guardians in caring for the baby.
