Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will have a basic understanding of quantum physics and its importance in the world.
Materials and Prep

- No prior knowledge needed
Activities
Activity 1: Quantum Dance Party
Put on some upbeat music and have a dance party with your child. Explain that just like the music can have different beats and rhythms, in quantum physics, particles can behave in different ways too. Sometimes they act like waves, and other times they act like particles.
Activity 2: Quantum Leap Game
Set up a small obstacle course using pillows and cushions. Have your child try to jump over the obstacles. Explain that in quantum physics, particles can make big jumps too, just like your child is making big jumps over the obstacles. They can jump from one energy level to another without going through all the levels in between.
Activity 3: Quantum Art
Give your child some crayons or markers and ask them to draw a picture of something they find interesting. Explain that in quantum physics, particles can exist in different states at the same time, just like their drawing can have different colors and shapes.
Kindergarten Grade Talking Points
- "Quantum physics is a special kind of science that helps us understand how tiny particles behave."
- "Just like we have different types of music with different beats, particles in quantum physics can behave like waves or particles."
- "Particles in quantum physics can make big jumps, just like you made big jumps over the pillows."
- "In quantum physics, particles can exist in different states at the same time, just like your drawing has different colors and shapes."
- "Quantum physics is important because it helps scientists understand how the world works at a very small scale."
