Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to spell words related to Dr. Seuss.

Materials and Prep

  • Dr. Seuss books or printouts
  • Paper and pencils
  • Optional: markers or crayons

Activities

  1. Read a Dr. Seuss book together. Choose a book with simple and repetitive words.

After reading, ask your child to identify and write down three words they found interesting or funny.

  2. Have your child practice spelling the three chosen words. Encourage them to sound out each letter and write it down.

For example, if the word is "cat," they would say /k/ /a/ /t/ and write down each letter.

  3. Create a mini spelling bee. Take turns saying the chosen words and have your child spell them out loud. Provide positive reinforcement for their efforts.

If they struggle with a word, help them break it down into individual sounds and guide them in spelling it correctly.

  4. Optional extension: Have your child illustrate each word with a simple drawing. This can help reinforce their understanding and memory of the words.
