Materials and Prep

• Water
• Salt
• Two clear cups
• Plastic wrap
• A pen or marker

Prior knowledge of basic scientific concepts and a basic understanding of history would be helpful for this lesson.

Activities

1. Activity 1: Osmosis Demonstration

   Fill one of the cups with water and label it "Freshwater." Fill the other cup with a saltwater solution by dissolving salt in water and label it "Saltwater."

   Cover the top of each cup with plastic wrap and secure it with a rubber band. Poke a small hole in the center of the plastic wrap on both cups.

   Observe both cups over a period of time and record any changes you notice.

2. Activity 2: Research and Presentation

   Choose a historical event or period that interests you. Research how osmosis played a role in that specific context.

   Create a presentation (e.g., a poster or a slideshow) to explain the connection between osmosis and the chosen historical event or period.

   Present your findings to a family member or friend, highlighting the significance of osmosis in history.
