Objective

By the end of this lesson, the preschool student will be able to develop early reading skills and vocabulary related to trains and tracks.

Materials and Prep

  • Train-themed books (e.g., "The Little Engine That Could")
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers or crayons

No prior knowledge or preparation is required.

Activities

  1. Read a Train Book: Start the lesson by reading a train-themed book to the student. Encourage them to listen attentively and ask questions about the story.
  2. Track Tracing: Provide the student with construction paper and markers or crayons. Help them draw train tracks on the paper and then guide their hand as they trace over the tracks. This activity will help develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  3. Train Collage: Cut out train-related pictures from magazines or print them from the internet. Assist the student in gluing the pictures onto a separate sheet of construction paper to create a train collage. Encourage them to describe the pictures and discuss what they like about trains.
