Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the basic geography related to trains, including the different types of trains and their routes.

Materials and Prep

Materials: Paper, markers, crayons

Prep: None

Activities

1. Draw a train: Have the student draw their own train on a piece of paper, and then label the different parts of the train (engine, cars, wheels, etc.).

2. Map the train route: Using a world map or a map of your local area, discuss with the student the different routes that trains can take. Have the student draw a route on the map and talk about the different places the train might pass through.

3. Train coloring: Provide the student with a coloring sheet of a train and have them color it in while discussing the different landscapes and environments that trains travel through.

  • Trains are a type of transportation that travel on tracks. You might say, "Trains are like big cars that run on tracks instead of roads. They can carry lots of people and things!"

  • Trains have different parts like engines and cars. You might say, "Trains have a big engine in the front that pulls all the cars behind it. Each car can carry different things like people, food, or even animals!"
