Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and understand the indicator lights in cars and relate them to basic arithmetic concepts.
Materials and Prep
Materials: A toy car or picture of a car with indicator lights
Prep: None
Activities
Activity 1: Show the student a picture of a car dashboard with indicator lights and discuss their purpose. Ask the student to count and identify the different lights.
Activity 2: Use the toy car or picture to demonstrate turning left and right, and discuss the corresponding indicator lights. Encourage the student to count the number of times the lights blink.
Activity 3: Create a simple addition and subtraction game using the indicator lights. For example, if the left indicator blinks 3 times and the right indicator blinks 2 times, ask the student how many times they blink in total, and then how many more times the left blinked than the right.
Kindergarten Grade Talking Points
- "Indicator lights tell us important things about the car, just like how numbers tell us about things in math."
- "When the car turns, the lights blink to let other drivers know. We can count how many times they blink."
- "We can add and subtract the number of blinks to learn about addition and subtraction!"
