By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to observe, describe, and investigate the properties of apples, including their color, size, and taste.
Materials and Prep
Materials: 2-3 different types of apples, cutting board, child-safe knife, paper plates, magnifying glass (optional)
Prep: Wash and dry the apples. Cut them into slices before the lesson.
Activities
1. Apple Observation: Show the different types of apples to the student. Encourage them to observe and describe the color, size, and shape of each apple.
2. Apple Taste Test: Have the student taste each type of apple and describe the flavor. Ask them to compare the taste of the different apples.
3. Apple Art: Use the apple slices to create apple prints by dipping them in paint and pressing them onto paper.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- "Look at the apples. What colors do you see? Can you tell me about the different shapes and sizes?"
- "Let's taste the apples. How do they taste? Are they sweet or sour? Which one do you like the best?"
- "Now we can make art with the apple slices. What shapes do you see when we press them onto the paper?"
