Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to observe, describe, and compare the characteristics of different types of apples.

Materials and Prep

Materials:

  • 3 different types of apples (e.g., red, green, yellow)
  • Knife (to cut the apples)
  • Plate
  • Paper and crayons

Prep:

  • Wash and dry the apples
  • Set up a comfortable workspace for the student

Activities

1. Apple Observation:

  • Have the student observe each apple and describe its color, shape, and size.
  • Encourage the student to use their senses to explore the apples (e.g., smell, touch).

2. Apple Tasting:

  • After observing, cut the apples into slices and have the student taste each one.
  • Ask the student to describe the taste of each apple (e.g., sweet, sour).

3. Apple Art:

  • Provide the student with paper and crayons to draw and color their favorite apple from the observation and tasting activities.

Preschool Grade Talking Points

  • "Apples come in different colors like red, green, and yellow. Let's look at each one and see how they are different."
  • "When we eat an apple, we can taste if it's sweet or sour. What do you think?"
  • "Let's draw a picture of our favorite apple and talk about why we like it."
