Objective
By the end of this lesson, the preschool student will be able to identify and describe different types of apples, understand their colors, textures, and taste, and develop an appreciation for apples through reading and investigation.
Materials and Prep
Materials:
- Several different types of apples (red, green, yellow)
- Books about apples
- Paper and crayons for drawing
- Knife and cutting board (for adult use only)
Prep:
- Wash and prepare the apples for investigation
- Select and gather age-appropriate books about apples
Activities
1. Apple Investigation: Show the different types of apples to the student and discuss their colors and textures. Let the student touch and smell the apples. Cut the apples open to show the inside and talk about the taste and texture of the flesh.
2. Reading Time: Read the selected books about apples together, discussing the different aspects of apples such as where they grow, their colors, and how they taste.
3. Apple Drawing: Have the student choose their favorite apple and draw it on the paper, encouraging them to use different colors to represent the apple's appearance.
