Activities

1. Stand up and do some jumping jacks to feel your leg muscles working.

2. Flex your arm muscles by making a muscle with your arms and feeling the tension.

3. Practice smiling and frowning to understand how facial muscles work.

Third Grade Talking Points

  • Our bodies have over 600 muscles that help us move and do different activities. You can say, "Can you feel your leg muscles working when you jump? That's because muscles help us move."
  • Muscles are attached to our bones and help us lift, push, and pull things. You can say, "When you pick up a toy, your arm muscles are helping you lift it."
  • It's important to keep our muscles strong and healthy by eating healthy foods and exercising. You can say, "Eating fruits and vegetables and playing outside help keep our muscles strong."
