Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of parks and their importance in Earth Science.
Materials and Prep
- Pen or pencil
- Blank paper
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Brainstorming:
Start by asking the student to think about what they like to do in a park. Have them share their ideas and write them down on the paper.
-
Park Features:
Show the student pictures of different park features such as trees, grass, playgrounds, and ponds. Discuss each feature and explain how they are related to Earth Science. For example, trees provide oxygen, grass helps prevent soil erosion, playgrounds are made from different materials, and ponds support aquatic life.
-
Park Observations:
Take the student to a nearby park or use pictures/videos of a park if going outside is not possible. Encourage the student to observe the different elements of the park, such as the plants, animals, and natural resources. Have them describe what they see and explain how each element is connected to Earth Science.
