Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply arithmetic concepts to solve real-world problems and have fun exploring mathematics through anime-inspired activities.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Paper, pencil, eraser, and access to anime-related images or characters.
Prep: Familiarize yourself with basic arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Activities
Create an Anime Math Story: Use anime characters to create a story that involves arithmetic problems. For example, if Naruto had 5 ninja stars and gave 2 to Sakura, how many ninja stars does he have left?
Anime Math Challenge: Find anime characters with different power levels and create math problems based on their powers. For instance, if Goku's power level is 9000 and Vegeta's power level is 8000, what is the difference in their power levels?
Anime Math Art: Draw anime characters and use math to calculate the proportions of their body parts. For example, if the length of Luffy's arm is 30cm and his leg is 50cm, what is the ratio of the length of his arm to his leg?
Seventh Grade Talking Points
- "Arithmetic is like solving puzzles with numbers. We use it to solve everyday problems like calculating money, time, and distances."
- "Addition is putting things together, like adding the number of characters in two anime series. For example, if Naruto has 220 episodes and One Piece has 900 episodes, how many episodes are there in total?"
- "Subtraction is taking things away, like subtracting the number of villains defeated in one anime from another. If Goku defeated 20 villains and Luffy defeated 15 villains, how many more villains did Goku defeat?"
- "Multiplication is like making multiple copies of something, such as calculating the total number of eyes in a group of anime characters. If there are 5 characters and each has 2 eyes, how many eyes are there in total?"
- "Division is sharing things equally, like dividing the number of anime episodes among different days. If there are 280 episodes and you want to watch them in 4 weeks, how many episodes will you watch each week?"
