Materials Needed:
- A simple Marvel superhero book suitable for early readers (e.g., "Meet Spider-Man", "5-Minute Marvel Stories", or a similar beginner reader book)
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
Lesson Activities:
Introduction: Superhero Chat! (5 minutes)
Let's talk about superheroes! What is a superhero? What special powers do they have? Who are some of your favorite Marvel superheroes? (Examples: Spider-Man, Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel). What makes them heroes?
Pre-Reading: Book Exploration (5 minutes)
Look at the cover of our superhero book. Who do you think is the main character? Where do you think the story takes place (the setting)? What do you predict might happen in this story?
Reading: Superhero Adventure! (10-15 minutes)
Let's read our Marvel book together! I'll read, and you can follow along, or we can take turns reading sentences or pages if you like. As we read, I'll point out some important words. Let's look for the characters and see where they are and what amazing things they do!
(Teacher/Parent reads the story aloud, pointing to words, pausing to ask simple questions like: "Who is this?", "Where is Spider-Man now?", "What is Hulk doing?", "How do you think Captain America feels?")
Post-Reading Activities: (15-20 minutes)
- Story Super-Recall: Can you tell me what happened at the beginning of the story? What happened in the middle? How did the story end? Who was the main hero? Where did the story happen?
- Superhero Draw & Write: Let's draw a picture of the main superhero from the story! Can you write their name under the picture? Now, let's draw the setting – where did the adventure take place?
- Action Words!: Superheroes do cool actions! What are some action words (verbs) from our story? (Examples: fly, jump, run, save, help, smash, swing). Let's make a list!
Wrap-up: (5 minutes)
Great job today reading about superheroes! We learned how to find the main character, the setting, and tell the story's beginning, middle, and end. Reading about heroes is super fun!
