Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the basics of investigative journalism and practice writing a news article using investigative techniques.

Materials and Prep

You will need a notebook, pen, and access to a computer with internet for research. Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with the basics of news reporting and journalism.

Activities

  • Research a current event or topic of interest and gather information from multiple sources.

  • Create a list of questions to investigate further about the chosen topic.

  • Interview a family member or friend about the topic to gather firsthand information.

  • Write a news article using the gathered information and include quotes from the interview.
