Objective

By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to perform basic arithmetic operations and solve simple word problems related to cats.

Materials and Prep

Materials: Paper, pencil, and a picture of a cat.

Prep: Familiarize yourself with basic addition and subtraction.

Activities

1. Cat Addition: Draw 3 cats on the paper and ask the student to write the number of cats and then add 2 more cats to the drawing. Have them write the total number of cats.

2. Meow Subtraction: Show the picture of a cat and ask the student to imagine 5 more cats. Then ask them to pretend 2 cats left. Have them write the total number of cats remaining.

  • "Let's count the cats together. How many cats do you see in the picture?"
  • "Now, let's add more cats. If we have 3 cats and add 2 more, how many cats do we have altogether?"
  • "Imagine there are 5 cats in the room. If 2 cats leave, how many cats are left?"
