1. Brainstorming: Have the student brainstorm reasons why they want a pet and jot them down on paper.

2. Writing: Instruct the student to write a persuasive essay, using their brainstormed reasons as supporting points.

3. Rehearsal: Have the student practice presenting their persuasive argument in front of you or a family member.
