Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify key elements of a story and understand the importance of reading for comprehension.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Zelda picture book or story, paper, pencils
Prep: Familiarize yourself with the Zelda story and prepare discussion questions related to the story.
Activities
- Read the Zelda story together and discuss the characters, setting, and main events.
- Ask the student to draw their favorite part of the story and write a sentence describing it.
- Have a mini "book club" discussion where the student shares their drawing and sentence with you, and you discuss the story together.
First Grade Talking Points
- Stories have characters, like Zelda, who do things and have feelings. You can tell me about a character you like in the story.
- When we read a story, we can imagine the places where the story happens. Can you tell me about a place in the Zelda story?
- What happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the Zelda story? Can you tell me one thing that happens in each part?
