Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to practice basic arithmetic skills using Legos.
Materials and Prep
- Legos (various colors and sizes)
- Number cards (0-10)
- Counting mat (optional)
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Counting Bricks: Use the number cards to pick a number. Count out that many Legos and stack them up. Repeat with different numbers.
- Addition Fun: Choose two numbers using the number cards. Build two towers with the corresponding number of Legos. Combine the towers and count the total number of Legos.
- Subtraction Challenge: Start with a tower of Legos. Remove a certain number of Legos and count how many are left. Repeat with different numbers.
- Pattern Building: Create a pattern using different colored Legos. For example, red, blue, red, blue. Ask the student to continue the pattern by adding the next color.
