Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to practice basic arithmetic skills using Legos.

Materials and Prep

  • Legos (various colors and sizes)
  • Number cards (0-10)
  • Counting mat (optional)

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Counting Bricks: Use the number cards to pick a number. Count out that many Legos and stack them up. Repeat with different numbers.
  2. Addition Fun: Choose two numbers using the number cards. Build two towers with the corresponding number of Legos. Combine the towers and count the total number of Legos.
  3. Subtraction Challenge: Start with a tower of Legos. Remove a certain number of Legos and count how many are left. Repeat with different numbers.
  4. Pattern Building: Create a pattern using different colored Legos. For example, red, blue, red, blue. Ask the student to continue the pattern by adding the next color.
