Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand and identify basic geometric shapes and their relevance to the Wild West.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Paper, pencil, ruler, and coloring supplies.
Prep: Familiarize yourself with the basic geometric shapes and their properties.
Activities
1. Draw and color geometric shapes commonly found in the Wild West such as a rectangular barn, a triangular cowboy hat, and a circular wagon wheel.
2. Measure the sides of the drawn shapes using a ruler and write down their lengths.
3. Create a Wild West town scene using the geometric shapes and label each shape with its name and measurements.
Third Grade Talking Points
- "In the Wild West, people used different shapes to build their homes and other structures. For example, they used rectangles for barns, triangles for cowboy hats, and circles for wagon wheels."
- "When we measure the sides of these shapes, we can see how long they are. This helps us understand how big or small things are in the Wild West."
- "By using geometric shapes, we can create our own Wild West town scene and imagine what it was like to live there."
