Fourth Grade Talking Points

  • Antarctica is a continent located at the southernmost part of the Earth. It is covered in ice and is the coldest, windiest, and driest continent on Earth. You can say, "Antarctica is a super cool place at the bottom of the world, covered in ice and surrounded by the ocean."
  • There are no permanent residents in Antarctica, but scientists and researchers from different countries visit to study the unique environment. You can say, "Even though no one lives there all the time, scientists go to Antarctica to learn about the animals, the weather, and the ice."
  • Antarctica is home to amazing wildlife such as penguins, seals, and whales. These animals have adapted to survive in the extreme cold. You can say, "Antarctica is like a big zoo for penguins, seals, and whales. They have to be really tough to live in such a freezing place!"
  • The South Pole is located in Antarctica, and it is the southernmost point on Earth. You can say, "The South Pole is like the bottom of the world, and it's in Antarctica! That's where all the lines of latitude meet."
