Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify different types of clouds and understand their basic characteristics.
Materials and Prep
Materials: None
Prep: Familiarize yourself with the different types of clouds and their names.
Activities
1. Cloud Watching: Go outside and look up at the sky. Talk about what shapes and colors the clouds are and ask the student what they see.
2. Cloud Art: Use cotton balls and glue to create a cloud collage on a piece of paper. Discuss the different shapes and sizes of clouds as you work.
3. Cloud Dance: Play music and encourage the student to move like different types of clouds - fluffy and light for cumulus clouds, wispy and high for cirrus clouds, etc.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- "Look at the sky! What shapes do you see in the clouds? Can you point to a big, fluffy cloud?"
- "Let's make a cloud picture with cotton balls. What shape should we make this cloud?"
- "Now let's pretend to be clouds. Can you move like a big, puffy cloud? How about a thin, wispy cloud?"
