Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic addition and subtraction using fun Transformer-themed activities.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed: Transformer action figures or images, paper, crayons or markers, and a small bag or container.

Prep: None

Activities

1. Transformer Math: Use the Transformer action figures or images to create simple addition and subtraction problems. For example, if we have 3 Autobots and 2 Decepticons, how many Transformers do we have in total?

2. Draw and Count: Draw a picture of a Transformer and ask the student to count how many wheels, wings, or other parts are on the Transformer. Then ask them to add or subtract different parts to find the total.

3. Transformer Sorting: Place the Transformer action figures or images in a bag or container. Have the student reach in and pull out a certain number of Transformers. Then ask them to add or subtract a specific number of Transformers from the group.

Preschool Grade Talking Points

  • "Transformers are like our friends, and we can use them to learn about adding and taking away things."
  • "When we have more Transformers, we can add them together, and when we have fewer Transformers, we can take some away."
  • "We can draw and count the different parts of a Transformer to help us learn about adding and taking away."
  • "We can also sort our Transformers and practice adding and taking away different numbers of them."
