By the end of this lesson, the preschool student will be able to identify and express different feelings and understand the importance of talking about their emotions.
Materials and Prep
Materials:
- Paper
- Crayons
- Mirror
- Stuffed animals or dolls
- Music player
- Blanket or yoga mat
- A quiet space for the lesson
Preparation:
- Familiarize yourself with different feelings and emotions
- Set up a comfortable and quiet space for the activities
- Have the materials ready and easily accessible
Activities
1. Feelings Drawing: Give the student paper and crayons. Ask them to draw how they feel today. Encourage them to use different colors and shapes to express their emotions.
2. Mirror Emotions: Sit in front of a mirror with the student and make different facial expressions to represent various feelings (happy, sad, surprised, angry). Encourage the student to mimic the expressions and talk about what each one means.
3. Emotional Storytime: Use stuffed animals or dolls to act out a simple story about different feelings. After the story, discuss how the characters felt and why.
4. Dance and Emotions: Play different types of music and ask the student to dance in a way that expresses the emotions they hear in the music. Discuss the feelings associated with each song.
5. Relaxation and Emotions: Lay down on a blanket or yoga mat and guide the student through a simple relaxation exercise. Ask them to talk about how they feel after the exercise.
