Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recognize and understand different parts of a book, including the cover, title, author, and illustrations.

Materials and Prep

Materials: A variety of books, paper, markers

Prep: Familiarize yourself with the books to be used in the lesson

Activities

  • Book Exploration: Have the student choose a book and explore its cover, title, and author. Discuss what they see and ask questions about the story based on the cover.
  • Illustration Observation: Look through the book and focus on the illustrations. Ask the student to describe what they see and how the pictures relate to the story.
  • Creating a Mini Book: Help the student create their own mini book with a cover, title, and illustrations. Encourage them to tell a simple story through their mini book.

Kindergarten Grade Talking Points

  • "The cover of the book shows us the title and the author. Can you find the title of this book?"
  • "The pictures in the book help us understand the story. What do you see in this picture?"
  • "Let's make our own book! We can draw a picture for the cover and write our own story inside."
