Prep: Familiarize yourself with the chosen storybook and have it ready for the lesson.

Activities

1. Story Retelling: Read the chosen storybook together and discuss the main characters and setting. Ask the student to draw their favorite part of the story.

2. Create a Story: Encourage the student to use their drawing to create a simple story. Help them write or dictate sentences to describe the characters and the setting.

3. Story Sharing: Have the student share their story with you or other family members. Ask them to describe what happens in their story and what they like about it.

Kindergarten Grade Talking Points

  • "In a story, we can find characters, who are the people or animals in the story. Can you tell me who the main character is in the book we just read?"
  • "The setting is where and when the story happens. Can you describe where the story took place?"
  • "Now, let's create our own story using pictures and words. What do you want your story to be about?"
  • "Great job! Now, let's share your story with everyone. What is your favorite part of the story you created?"
