Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of making healthy choices while shopping and how to read food labels to make informed decisions.

Materials and Prep

  • Access to a grocery store or online grocery shopping website
  • Basic understanding of food groups and nutrition

Activities

1. Grocery Store Scavenger Hunt: Have the student identify and locate different food items from various food groups in the grocery store or online shopping website. Encourage them to find healthy options.

2. Create a Healthy Shopping List: Ask the student to make a list of healthy items they would like to purchase. Discuss the importance of including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.

3. Reading Food Labels: Teach the student how to read and understand food labels. Have them identify key information such as serving size, calories, and nutrient content.
