Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to write a creative story using virtual reality as the setting and explore the use of descriptive language to enhance your writing.

Materials and Prep

You will need a computer or a virtual reality headset with access to virtual reality experiences. It's important to have a basic understanding of virtual reality and how it works before starting this lesson.

Activities

  • Explore a virtual reality environment and take note of the sights, sounds, and feelings you experience. Write down descriptive words to describe what you see and feel.

  • Create a mind map or drawing of the virtual reality setting you explored. Include details such as colors, shapes, and emotions it evokes.

  • Use the descriptive words and details you gathered to write a short story set in the virtual reality environment. Focus on using vivid language to paint a picture for your readers.

Third Grade Talking Points

  • "Virtual reality is like being in a make-believe world. It's like when you pretend to be a superhero or a princess, but in virtual reality, you can see and hear everything around you like it's real!"
  • "When we write a story, we want to use words that help our readers imagine the make-believe world we are in. We can use words like 'sparkling,' 'gigantic,' and 'mysterious' to describe the things we see."
  • "Let's draw a picture or make a map of the virtual reality world we visited. This will help us remember all the details we want to include in our story."
