Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic physics concepts related to trucks.

Materials and Prep

  • Toy trucks
  • A flat surface to play on
  • Markers or stickers to decorate the trucks (optional)

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Start by introducing the concept of motion to your toddler. Explain that trucks move and can go fast or slow.
  2. Ask your toddler to choose a toy truck to play with.
  3. Set up a flat surface for your toddler to play on, such as a table or the floor.
  4. Encourage your toddler to push the truck and observe how it moves. Ask questions like "Can you make the truck go fast?" or "Can you make the truck go slow?"
  5. Let your toddler decorate the truck with markers or stickers. This can be a fun way to personalize their toy and also introduce the concept of weight and balance.
  6. Discuss the different parts of the truck, such as the wheels, body, and cargo area. Explain that these parts work together to make the truck move.
  7. Encourage your toddler to experiment with different surfaces to see how the truck moves on carpet, tile, or other materials. This will introduce the concept of friction.
  8. Play with the trucks together and have fun exploring different movements and speeds.
