Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify basic geometric shapes found in castles and understand how they are used in castle construction.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Paper, pencil, ruler, and coloring materials (crayons, markers, or colored pencils)
Prep: None
Activities
1. Draw a Castle: Use paper and pencil to draw a simple castle, including geometric shapes such as squares, rectangles, and triangles.
2. Color the Castle: Use coloring materials to color the different geometric shapes in the castle, identifying and naming the shapes as you color them.
3. Build a Castle: Use paper to cut out different geometric shapes and create a 2D castle on a flat surface, discussing the shapes used and their positions in the castle.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- Castles are big buildings with different shapes. They have squares, rectangles, and triangles. Let's find them in our castle drawing!
- We can use different colors to make the shapes in our castle stand out. What color should we use for the squares? How about the triangles?
- Now, let's cut out some shapes and make our own castle on the paper. What shape should we use for the towers? Can you find the squares for the walls?
