Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic concepts of geometry through fun dollhouse activities.
Materials and Prep
Materials: Dollhouse, small dolls or figurines, colorful tape, and paper
Prep: Clear a space for the dollhouse activities and gather the materials listed above.
Activities
1. Shape Hunt: Use colorful tape to create different shapes (circle, square, triangle) on the floor around the dollhouse. Encourage the toddler to find objects in the dollhouse that match these shapes.
2. Sorting: Give the toddler small dolls or figurines and ask them to sort them based on shape (round, square, triangle).
3. Build a House: Provide paper and markers for the toddler to design and create their own dollhouse using basic geometric shapes.
Toddler Grade Talking Points
- "Look for things in the dollhouse that are shaped like a circle, like the clock or the table. Can you find more circles?"
- "Let's group the dolls that have square bases together. Can you find more dolls that have a square base?"
- "What shapes do you want to use to build your own dollhouse? How many triangles and squares will you need?"
