Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to write a short story about their experience of running, using descriptive words and simple sentences.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils or crayons
  • No other materials needed

No special preparations are required for this lesson.

Activities

  • Brainstorming: Ask the student to think about their favorite place to run and what they see, hear, and feel while running.
  • Story Writing: Encourage the student to write a short story about their running experience, using descriptive words to describe the sights and sounds they encounter.
  • Illustrating: After writing the story, have the student draw a picture to go along with their story.

Encourage the student to use their imagination and be creative with their writing and drawing.

Kindergarten Grade Talking Points

  • "Let's think about where we like to run. What do you see when you run? Maybe you see trees, flowers, or animals."
  • "Now, let's use our words to write a story about our running adventure. What did you see? What did you hear?"
  • "After writing the story, let's draw a picture to show what our running adventure looked like."
