Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic addition and subtraction through a fun game of hopscotch.
Materials and Prep
You will need chalk to draw a hopscotch grid on the ground. Make sure you have a good open space to play the game.
Activities
1. Draw a hopscotch grid on the ground with numbered squares.
2. Start by standing at the beginning of the grid and toss a small stone or beanbag onto a numbered square.
3. Hop on one foot to the square with the stone, then pick it up and hop back to the starting square.
4. Repeat the process, but this time add the number on the square where you picked up the stone to the number of the square where you landed. If you land on square 3 and pick up the stone from square 4, then you add 3 + 4.
5. Continue playing and practicing addition and subtraction while hopping through the grid.
