Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create a comprehensive novel study for the book "The Lost Year" by understanding and analyzing its themes, characters, and plot.

Materials and Prep

  • Copy of the novel "The Lost Year"
  • Notebook or computer for note-taking
  • Pen or pencil
  • Highlighters or colored pens

Prior to the lesson, the student should have read the entire book "The Lost Year" and be familiar with its basic storyline.

Activities

  1. Character Analysis: Select three main characters from the novel and create detailed character profiles for each. Include their physical appearance, personality traits, motivations, and relationships with other characters.

  2. Theme Exploration: Identify and analyze at least three major themes present in the novel. Provide evidence from the text to support your analysis and explain how these themes contribute to the overall message of the story.

  3. Plot Summary: Write a concise summary of the novel's plot, highlighting the main events and their significance. Be sure to include the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.

  4. Discussion Questions: Come up with five thought-provoking discussion questions based on the novel. These questions should encourage critical thinking and analysis of the book's themes, characters, and plot.

  5. Book Review: Write a well-crafted book review for "The Lost Year". Include a brief summary, your personal opinion, and recommendations for other readers who might enjoy the book.
