Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to analyze and interpret the themes and literary elements present in the game Geometry Dash, and make connections between the game and various pieces of literature.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer or mobile device with access to Geometry Dash
  • Pen and paper
  • Optional: A selection of literary texts (books, poems, short stories) that the student is familiar with

Activities

  1. Play Geometry Dash for a designated amount of time, paying attention to the visual and auditory elements of the game. Take notes on any recurring themes or motifs that you notice.

  2. Choose a literary text that you are familiar with. Analyze the themes and literary elements present in the text, such as symbolism, characterization, or conflict.

  3. Compare and contrast the themes and literary elements you identified in Geometry Dash with those in the literary text. Write a short paragraph explaining the similarities and differences.

  4. Optional: If you have access to multiple literary texts, repeat step 2 and 3 with another text to make further connections.

  5. Reflect on the connections you made between Geometry Dash and the literary texts. Write a brief reflection on how analyzing a video game in relation to literature can enhance your understanding of both mediums.
