The Extraordinary Egg Adventure!

Materials Needed: Picture book about a special egg, large paper/whiteboard, marker, construction paper, safety scissors, glue stick, crayons/markers, Optional: plastic eggs with surprises.

Lesson Activities:

1. Warm-up: What's an Egg? (5 mins)

Ask the student: "What do you know about eggs? Where do they come from? What's usually inside?" Introduce the word "extraordinary" and explain it means very unusual or special. "Today we're going to read about an EGGstraordinary egg! See? Egg starts with the letter E!" Draw a big uppercase 'E' and lowercase 'e' on the paper/whiteboard. Practice making the /e/ sound.

2. Story Time: The Extraordinary Egg (10-15 mins)

Read the chosen picture book aloud with enthusiasm. Pause to look at pictures, ask simple questions ("What is the egg doing now?" "How do you think the character feels?"), and emphasize the word "extraordinary" or other key vocabulary.

3. Chat About It! (5 mins)

After reading, ask: "Who was the main character in the story?" "What was so extraordinary about the egg (or what happened)?" "Did you like the story? Why?" Encourage the student to use any new words learned.

4. Activity: Egg Hunt (Optional - 5 mins)

If using plastic eggs, hide them around the room. Have the student find the 'extraordinary' eggs. Inside, you could hide small pictures related to the story, letters (especially 'E'), or tiny trinkets.

5. Craft: Make Your Own Extraordinary Egg! (15 mins)

Help the student cut out a large egg shape from white or light-colored construction paper. Provide other colors of construction paper scraps, crayons, and markers. Say: "Now you get to make your *own* extraordinary egg! Make it special! What will make your egg extraordinary? Polka dots? Stripes? Maybe it has wings or a funny face?" Let the student decorate their egg freely using glue and drawing materials. While crafting, talk about their creation and practice the letter 'E' sound or the word 'extraordinary'.

6. Show and Tell & Wrap-up (5 mins)

Have the student proudly display their extraordinary egg creation. Ask them to describe one thing that makes it extraordinary. Review the letter 'E' and the sound it makes. Praise their good listening during the story and their creativity on the craft. You can hang up their artwork!
