Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create their own stamped artwork using various materials and techniques.
Materials and Prep
- Stamping tools (e.g., rubber stamps, foam stamps, household items with interesting textures)
- Stamp pads or washable paint in different colors
- Plain paper or cardstock
- Protective covering for the work area (e.g., newspaper, plastic tablecloth)
- Apron or old clothes to protect clothing
- Paper towels or wet wipes for cleaning hands
- Optional: Sticker paper or adhesive foam sheets for creating custom stamps
Activities
Introduce the concept of stamping to the student. Show them different types of stamps and explain how they can create unique patterns and designs by pressing them onto paper.
Demonstrate different stamping techniques, such as dipping the stamp into the ink pad or paint, or applying the ink or paint directly onto the stamp using a brush.
Encourage the student to experiment with different stamping tools and colors. Let them explore making patterns, overlapping stamps, and combining different textures.
Guide the student to create their own stamped artwork. Provide suggestions and prompts, such as creating a stamped scene, a patterned border, or a personalized card.
Allow the artwork to dry and then display and discuss the student's creations. Ask them to describe their favorite part of stamping and what they enjoyed most about the process.
