Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze themes of poverty, bullying, forgiveness, and regret in the book "The Hundred Dresses" by Eleanor Estes.

  • Pen or pencil
  • Notebook or paper

Activities

  1. Read the book "The Hundred Dresses" by Eleanor Estes.

    Take notes while reading, paying attention to the themes of poverty, bullying, forgiveness, and regret.

  2. After finishing the book, discuss the themes with the student.

    Ask the student to share their thoughts on how poverty affects the characters in the story and how it relates to real-life situations.

    Encourage the student to reflect on instances of bullying in the book and discuss the consequences of such behavior.

    Explore the theme of forgiveness and discuss how it can impact relationships and personal growth.

    Lastly, discuss instances of regret in the story and ask the student to reflect on the importance of making amends and learning from mistakes.

  3. Have the student write a short reflection on one of the themes from the book.

    Encourage them to express their thoughts and feelings about the theme and provide examples from the story.

    Review and discuss their reflection, offering feedback and further insights.
