Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe different elements of a story while incorporating their interest in Minecraft.

Materials and Prep

  • Minecraft-themed storybook or printouts of Minecraft characters
  • Paper and pencils for drawing

Activities

  1. Introduce the concept of characters in a story. Show the student the Minecraft-themed storybook or printouts of Minecraft characters.

    Ask the student to identify the main characters in the story or the characters they recognize from Minecraft.

  2. Discuss the setting of a story. Explain that the setting is where the story takes place.

    Encourage the student to describe a Minecraft world and its different environments such as forests, mountains, or caves.

  3. Explain the plot of a story. Discuss how the plot is the sequence of events that happen in a story.

    Ask the student to think about a Minecraft adventure they would like to go on and help them create a simple plot with a beginning, middle, and end.

  4. Talk about the importance of problem-solving in a story. Explain that characters face challenges or problems that they need to overcome.

    Encourage the student to think about a problem their Minecraft character could encounter and how they would solve it.

  5. Discuss the concept of a lesson or moral in a story. Explain that stories often have a message or something to learn from.

    Ask the student to think about a lesson they have learned from playing Minecraft and share it with you.

  6. Engage the student in a drawing activity. Ask them to draw a scene from their Minecraft adventure, including the characters, setting, and problem they identified.

    Encourage the student to share their drawing and explain the elements they included.
