Begin by discussing what skateboarding is and why it can be a fun and healthy activity. Show pictures or videos of skateboarders to spark interest.
Have the student stand on the skateboard with one foot on each side. Encourage them to find their balance and try to stay on the board without falling off. They can hold onto a stable object for support if needed.
Teach the student how to push off the ground with one foot while keeping the other foot on the skateboard. Encourage them to push and glide, gradually increasing their speed and distance.
Show the student how to shift their weight to turn the skateboard. Practice turning in both directions and explain the importance of steering to avoid obstacles.
Set up a simple obstacle course using cones or markers (if available). Encourage the student to navigate through the course, practicing their balancing, pushing, gliding, and turning skills.
