Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and read a set of sight words.
Materials and Prep
- Flashcards or printed sight word cards
- Writing materials (pencils, crayons, markers)
- Whiteboard or large paper
Activities
-
Introduce the sight words: Start by showing the flashcards or printed sight word cards one by one. Say each word out loud and have the student repeat after you.
-
Word Hunt: Write the sight words randomly on the whiteboard or large paper. Ask the student to find and circle each word as you call them out. Encourage them to say the words aloud as they find them.
-
Build the Words: Write each sight word on a separate flashcard or piece of paper. Mix up the cards and ask the student to arrange them in the correct order to spell each word. Provide guidance and support as needed.
-
Create Sentences: Write a simple sentence on the whiteboard using one of the sight words. Ask the student to read the sentence aloud. Then, encourage them to create their own sentence using the same sight word. Repeat this activity with different sight words.
-
Review and Practice: Go through all the sight words again, reviewing their pronunciation and meaning. Encourage the student to practice reading the words independently or with a family member.
