Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a basic understanding of the responsibilities and skills required for pet sitting.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pen/pencil
  • Access to the internet
  • Paper and markers
  • Optional: Pet care books or resources

Before starting the lesson, make sure the student has a genuine interest in pet sitting and basic knowledge about different types of pets.

Activities

  1. Research Different Types of Pets

Have the student use the internet to research and make a list of different types of pets commonly owned by people. They should include both domestic and exotic animals. Encourage them to find out about the specific care needs and characteristics of each pet.

  2. Create a Pet Sitting Checklist

Ask the student to create a checklist of tasks and responsibilities that a pet sitter should be aware of. They can include items such as feeding, exercise, grooming, and administering medication if necessary. Have them think about the importance of following specific instructions from pet owners.

  3. Design a Pet Sitting Brochure

Using paper and markers, have the student design a creative and informative brochure for their pet sitting services. The brochure should include details about their experience, the types of pets they are comfortable caring for, and contact information. Encourage them to make it visually appealing and easy to read.

  4. Practice Pet First Aid

Explain the importance of being prepared for emergencies while pet sitting. Teach the student basic pet first aid techniques, such as how to administer CPR to a dog or cat, how to stop bleeding, and how to handle common injuries. You can find instructional videos online to guide you through the process.
