Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to spell words related to their interests in Legos and Minecraft.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil
  • List of Lego and Minecraft related words

Activities

  1. Word Hunt: Provide the student with a list of Lego and Minecraft related words. Have them search for these words in books, magazines, or online resources. Once they find a word, they should write it down on their paper. Encourage them to find as many words as they can within a given time limit.

  2. Word Building: Choose a Lego or Minecraft related word and write it on the board or say it out loud. Have the student break down the word into individual sounds and then write the corresponding letters. For example, if the word is "block", the student should identify the sounds /b/, /l/, /o/, /k/ and write the letters "b", "l", "o", "c", and "k" respectively.

  3. Word Sorting: Provide the student with a mix of Lego and Minecraft related words and unrelated words. Ask them to sort the words into two categories: "Lego/Minecraft" and "Unrelated". This activity will help them practice identifying words relevant to their interests.

  4. Word Scramble: Give the student a Lego or Minecraft related word and ask them to unscramble the letters to form the correct word. For example, if you give them the word "minceraft", they should rearrange the letters to spell "minecraft".
