Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to build a simple Hot Wheels track and describe the track using basic writing skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Hot Wheels cars
  • Cardboard or foam board
  • Tape or glue
  • Markers or crayons
  • Scissors

Prior to the lesson, make sure you have a variety of Hot Wheels cars available and prepare the cardboard or foam board by cutting it into smaller pieces for track building.

Activities

  1. Introduction: Begin by discussing what a Hot Wheels track is and show the student some examples or pictures. Ask them if they have ever played with Hot Wheels cars before and what they like about them.
  2. Track Building: Provide the student with the materials and guide them in building their own Hot Wheels track using the cardboard or foam board. Encourage creativity and experimentation with different track designs.
  3. Describing the Track: After the track is built, ask the student to describe their track using basic writing skills. Have them think about the shape of the track, any obstacles or jumps, and any special features they added.
  4. Writing Practice: Help the student write down their description of the track. Encourage them to use descriptive words and complete sentences. Assist them in sounding out words and spelling as needed.
  5. Illustration: Once the description is written, ask the student to illustrate their track using markers or crayons. Encourage them to include details from their description.
  6. Sharing and Reflection: Have the student share their track and description with you or other family members. Ask them to explain their track and what they enjoyed most about building it.
