Objective

By the end of this lesson, the Grade 1 homeschool student will be able to understand and apply basic arithmetic concepts using Magnatile as a visual aid.

Materials and Prep

• Paper and pencil

Activities

• Activity 1: Counting with Magnatile

Ask the student to count the number of Magnatile pieces they have. Write the number on the paper.

• Activity 2: Addition with Magnatile

Using the Magnatile pieces, demonstrate addition by combining two groups of Magnatile. Ask the student to count the total number of Magnatile pieces.

• Activity 3: Subtraction with Magnatile

Using the Magnatile pieces, demonstrate subtraction by removing some pieces from a group. Ask the student to count the remaining Magnatile pieces.

• Activity 4: Patterns with Magnatile

Encourage the student to create different patterns using the Magnatile pieces. Ask them to describe the patterns they have made.
