Objective

By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to recognize and appreciate owls through visual arts activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Construction paper (various colors)
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers or crayons
  • Printed pictures or drawings of owls

Prior to the lesson, gather the materials and print out owl images or drawings.

Activities

  1. Create an Owl Collage:
  2. Provide the toddler with construction paper, scissors, glue, and owl images. Encourage them to cut out shapes from the construction paper and glue them onto a larger sheet to create an owl collage. They can also add the owl images to their collage.

  3. Decorate an Owl:
  4. Give the toddler a printed owl drawing or a blank piece of paper. Let them use markers or crayons to decorate the owl, adding colors and patterns as they wish.

  • Owls are special birds that come out at night. They have big eyes that help them see in the dark.
  • Owls can turn their heads almost all the way around to look behind them.
  • Some owls make a hooting sound, like "hoo-hoo," to communicate.

  • Owls eat small animals like mice and insects.
  • There are many different kinds of owls, and they come in different colors and sizes.
