Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will have a better understanding of the game of hockey and its basic rules, as well as develop some basic skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Hockey stick (or a broomstick if not available)
  • A ball or puck (can be a tennis ball or a rolled-up pair of socks)
  • An open space to practice (backyard, driveway, or a park)
  • Comfortable clothing and sneakers

No previous knowledge or experience is required.

Activities

  • Warm-up: Start with a 5-minute jog or jumping jacks to get your heart rate up and muscles warmed up.
  • Stick Handling: Practice controlling the ball or puck with your stick while moving it around cones or other objects placed on the ground.
  • Passing and Receiving: Set up a target (can be a wall or a designated spot) and practice passing the ball or puck to the target and receiving it back.
  • Shooting: Practice shooting the ball or puck towards a target (can be an open space or a goal). Focus on accuracy and power.
  • Mini Game: Play a small scrimmage with a family member or a friend. Practice your skills in a game-like situation.
