Lesson Activities:

Introduction: Super Spidey Senses! (5 mins)

"Wow, guess who swung by today? It's Spiderman! Spiderman starts with a special letter. Do you know what letter makes the 'sssss' sound, like a spider or Spiderman? That's right, it's the letter S!" Show the 'S' flashcard. Practice making the 'S' sound together.

Activity 1: Spot the 'S'! (5 mins)

"Let's look at the cover of our Spiderman book. Can you find the letter 'S' in Spiderman's name?" Point to the 'S'. "Great job! Let's see if we can find any other 'S' words inside." Briefly look for 'S' or pictures of spiders.

Activity 2: Story Time with Spidey! (10-15 mins)

Read the Spiderman book or comic aloud together. Use your finger to point to the words as you read. Pause frequently to look at the pictures. Ask simple questions like:

  • "Who is this?" (Point to Spiderman)
  • "What is Spiderman doing here?"
  • "What color is Spiderman's suit?"
  • "How do you think Spiderman feels?"

Encourage your student to point to things in the pictures and talk about what they see.

Activity 3: Spidey Action Drawing! (Optional - 5 mins)

"Let's draw Spiderman swinging! We can use our red and blue crayons. Maybe we can even draw a big letter 'S' for Spiderman on the page!" Talk about the drawing afterwards.

Conclusion: Web-Slinging Wrap-up! (2 mins)

"We had so much fun reading with Spiderman today! What sound does the letter 'S' make again? 'Ssssss'! And what was your favorite part of the Spiderman story? Awesome job being a super reader today!"
